The Tar Water Mess is an authentic Civil War Living History group primarily based in Kentucky and Indiana, who portray the Federal soldier in the Western Theater of the War. Our goals are to provide a more historically correct impression through drill, rations, military procedures, first-person aspects, and by conveying the hardships and tribulations that men on both sides had to endure on a daily basis. We are serious about our impressions and we require adherence to the standards we have set for ourselves.  If you are interested in joining our ranks click the link below.
Our Impression...

is dictated by the event and scenario in which we choose to attend. Tar Water Mess members adapt their uniform and kit to suit a particular  period and military theatre as required. Most often the Tar Water Mess portrays soldiers on campaign or on picket duty. The Tar Water also participates in garrison-style events where its uniforms, kit, rations, military procedures, and other impression aspects reflect the scenario and unit portrayed.
